AN ALBUM FROM OUR SQUARE
Join VSP and musicians in creating a hip-hop album with stories from Victoria Square.
Through creative workshops we collect stories from our neighborhood, discuss, document testimonies, and turn them into lyrics, music, and expression. The program consists of two workshops, of which participants can choose to attend one or both. The workshops’ outcomes will form the basis of a collective audiovisual work that will be presented in early autumn at Victoria Square Project.
Workshop “Collecting stories of the square”
This workshop aims to introduce participants to oral history’s key concepts and methods and help them put this new knowledge into practice by collecting oral testimonies from Victoria Square. In accordance with participants’ own interests, we will explore the many stories behind a square that has been at the epicenter of Athenian life and history. From the Katerina cinema to the lively tavernas and coffee shops to Crystal Hotel, the metro stop “Victoria,” and the refugee families sitting on the benches, the busy square invites us to discover it, learn how to listen, and ultimately reflect on the past, present, and future of a multicultural neighborhood in Athens.

Hip-Hop Workshop
This workshop’s goal is to familiarize participants with forms of rhythm, performance, and expression and reveal to them the sources of inspiration in their own environments so that they can enter into a productive and creative process, find a personal way of interpreting their stories, and ultimately record these stories in a studio and take part in the production of an album.
