LOOMING TOGETHER

Looming Together is a collaborative project organized by Victoria Square Project that promotes community engagement.

Through a series of 12 workshops, participants will learn about the history of textiles around the world; the symbolic imagery of different cultures; and the history of textiles in the United States and Greece.

American artist Rick Lowe and Greek artist Maria Papadimitriou will present the work of various artists working with cotton. In addition, American textile artist Sarajane Kidd Leone, will also lead part of the workshops. At the final stage of the project, participants will learn how to loom with cotton using small personal looms, under the guidance of Chrysoula Skorda. These technical skills will prove useful to those interested in crafts and in developing their own businesses. The final textiles created will be combined in a single tapestry to be presented to a wider audience and finally donated to the Aggeliki Chatzimichali Museum of Popular Craft & Tradition in Athens.

With the support of the U.S. Embassy in Athens.
